A $3.2 million fund to encourage research and
development to fortify the State’s enviable biosecurity status is now under way,
made possible by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions
program.
Successful projects may receive between $50,000
and $500,000 per year for up to three years. Research organisations, education
institutions, not-for-profit organisations, local and State government agencies
along with community, industry and producer groups are encouraged to submit
proposals.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said
the fund was a key part of the recently announced Boosting Biosecurity Defences
component of the $300 million Seizing the Opportunity Agriculture
initiative, through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions
program. This fund is an excellent example of industry, community
and government working together to find innovative solutions to
protect the value and reputation of Western Australia’s agrifood
sector and enhance the vitality of regional communities.
