The State Government has entered into an agreement
to secure the Margaret River Gourmet Escape until at least 2017, paving the way
for the festival to become a premier global food and wine event.
In just two years, the Gourmet Escape has reaped dividends for WA,
attracting the likes of Heston Blumenthal, Rene Redzepi and Massimo Bottura, and
generating global publicity for the State valued at more than $9
million.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the State Government
was proud to sponsor the Margaret River Gourmet Escape through Tourism WA’s
Regional Events Program, which is funded by Royalties for
Regions.
“This is a fantastic event for WA. It puts the State on the global
culinary map,” Mr Redman said.
“In addition to the significant economic impact, the Gourmet Escape
also provides trade potential and broad exposure for local producers as well as
local employment and training opportunities.”
