The 2015 school year will see Year 7
students at Australind Senior High School and Cape Naturaliste College in new
state-of-the-art classrooms.
Australind Senior High School’s new
$7.8 million building, named the ‘Egret Wing’, will provide Year 7 students with
purpose-built, modern classrooms and facilities. It has a performing arts space
for dance and drama, and a food technology studio. It was opened Friday 5
December.
Cape Naturaliste College’s new $3.4
million building has five classrooms, an outdoor activity area, staff study
area, and staff and student toilets. There is also a car park, hard courts and
landscaping. It was opened Wednesday 17 December.
Regional Development Minister Terry
Redman said the Royalties for Regions Year 7 relocation project would provide
better educational opportunities for country students.
“Royalties for Regions is building
sustainable regional communities to ensure a brighter future for our next
generation,” Mr Redman
said.
This upgrade has been part of a wider
package of reforms worth $229.6 million in readying Year 7s for their move to
high school, with Royalties for Regions funding providing $42.6
million.
