Clontarf Foundation

Project status: Ongoing

The Clontarf Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that helps young Aboriginal men to improve their education, discipline, self-esteem, life skills and employment prospects.

The Foundation delivers Aussie Rules and/or Rugby League programmes at Clontarf Academies in partnership with local schools. Any Aboriginal male enrolled at the school is eligible to participate in the Academy.

Research indicates significant positive impacts for students involved in football academy programs, with project aims including:

  • Increased attendance and retention rates
  • Reduced levels of negative behaviour
  • Above-average achievement of training qualifications
  • High levels of post-school entry into formal training and/or employment

Clontarf Academies have been established in Karratha, Carnarvon, Mandurah (Coodanup), Northam, Katanning, Derby, Roebourne and Fitzroy Crossing.

Royalties for Regions has supported the program with $5.04 million over five years to 2014-2015.
