The $4.5 million Food Industry Innovation project, part of the Seizing the Opportunity Agriculture initiative being delivered by the Department of Agriculture and Food, will assist regional agriculture and food businesses capture premium domestic and export market opportunities by:

  • cost sharing and scale
  • promotion and market development
  • leading edge technologies.

This will be achieved through the establishment of a Premium Food Centre in Manjimup and a Specialised Food Centre in Albany to work with regional food businesses across the state.

Manjimup Premium Food Centre

A $3 million Premium Food Centre in Manjimup will build on previous commitments of Royalties for Regions funding that has identified food tourism as a focus due to the abundance of premium produce grown in the region.

The centre will employ staff with the skill to provide an advisory service to existing and prospective premium and organic producers enabling them to capture market demand.

Albany Specialised Food Centre

A $1.5 million Premium Food Centre in Albany will assist businesses and regions to improve efficiency and reduce costs by collaborating on knowledge, skills, technology and infrastructure.  This will ensure economies of scale in service delivery to support activities in the South West, Wheatbelt and Great Southern.
