Greenough River Solar Farm

Greenough River Solar Farm

Project status: Completed

Western Australia has an abundance of sunshine and Royalties for Regions supported an excellent opportunity for solar power generation with $10 million of funding for the Greenough River Solar Farm.

Opened in 2012, the Greenough River Solar Farm, situated 50kms south of Geraldton, has been producing about 22,000 megawatt hours a year of clean energy - that's enough for about 3000 average households.

The solar farm is an impressive sight with 150,000 solar panels covering 50 hectares or nearly one square kilometre. The development of the facility utilised the services of 25 local suppliers, including required security, catering and earthworks services.

This clean, affordable and sustainable energy generated by the solar farm has been purchased by the Water Corporation to offset the electricity required for the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant, near Binningup.
