Horizon Power Murchison Radio-Astronomy Observatory Power Station

Horizon Power Murchison Radio-Astronomy Observatory Power Station

Project status: In progress

Royalties for Regions has invested $10million to construct the first stage of an off-grid hybrid power station at CSIRO's Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory, on Boolardy Station, approximately 400 km north east of Geraldton.

Horizon Power will design, build, operate and maintain a solar-diesel power station which will provide electricity for CSIROs Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder telescope.

This world-class facility will pioneer and test revolutionary new technologies in areas of electrical engineering, digital systems, computing and signal transport, and provide key results and techniques to the international Square Kilometre Array design and development effort.

The Australian Square Kilometre Array telescopes will provide remarkable insights into the formation of the early Universe, including the emergence of the first stars, galaxies and other structures.
