Geraldton Residential College
Project status: Completed
Geraldton's residential college is now offering more places for regional students thanks to its recent upgrade.
The works were necessary to cater for the additional demand associated with Year 7 students moving to secondary schools.
Improvements to the Geraldton Residential College include:
- A 16 bedroom addition to the girls' accommodation block
- Creation of a new student activity and recreation space
- Two new flats for live-in supervisory staff
$2.6 million in Royalties for Regions funding was provided for the upgrades.
Upgrades to the Geraldton Residential College enable students in the Mid West to have access to high quality secondary education opportunities, comparable to that of the Perth metropolitan area.
Residential Colleges are an essential part of regional communities as they allow families to remain in the regions and not move elsewhere to seek quality education. Due to the close proximity of the colleges, boarders are also able to return home regularly to participate in local and family activities, fostering close family and community ties.
The Geraldton Residential College is supported by the Country High Schools Hostels Authority. The upgrades were completed in early 2015.
