Residential College upgrades

 

Since 2008, Royalties for Regions has invested $52 million specifically for upgrades to regional residential colleges in Broome, Esperance, Geraldton, Merredin and Narrogin to help students continue their education while staying close to their families.

 

Broome Residential College

Received $11.5 million to:

  • increase the boarding capacity to 116 places with the addition of 52 single bedrooms
  • new indoor fitness and activity facility
  • four new flats for live-in student supervisors

Project status: To be completed June 2017

 

Esperance Residential College

Stage 1 received $13.4 million to:

  • construct student and staff accommodation
  • kitchen and food stores
  • laundry
  • public entrance
  • upgrades to dining room, ablutions and services

Project status: Completed August 2012

Stage 2 received $2.31 million to:

  • increase number of student single bedrooms from 50 to 94
  • four new staff accommodation units
  • renovations to kitchen, dining, laundry, ablutions area and recreational facilities.

Project status: To be completed December 2015

 

Geraldton Residential College Upgrade

Geraldton Residential College received $2 million from the Mid West Investment Plan and $600,000 from the $52 million regional colleges' allocation to build 16 new bedrooms increasing the capacity to 112 single rooms and seven twin rooms.

Project status: Completed December 2014

 

Merredin Regional College

Stage 1 received $9.03 million to:

  • 48 new student bedrooms
  • new staff accommodation and new public entry

Project status: Completed August 2012

Stage 2 received $3.9 million for 24 additional student bedrooms

Project status: To be completed December 2015

 

Narrogin Regional College

Received $1.4 million to:

  • increase number of female student single bedrooms 54 to 76
  • improve indoor recreation facilities

Project status: To be completed June 2015

These improvements will help meet the demand for boarding places and provide education and accommodation options for parents and students living in the areas.

 

Access to high quality regional boarding facilities provides parents and students with financial and social benefits encouraging families to stay in the area building better, stronger communities.

There are eight country residential colleges in Albany, Broome, Esperance, Geraldton, Merredin, Moora, Narrogin and Northam, and one in Perth for country students.
