North West Drug and Alcohol Support Program
Project status: In progress
The North West Drug and Alcohol Support Program comprises initiatives in the Pilbara, Kimberley and Gascoyne regions to reduce alcohol and other drug (AOD) related harm.
Royalties for Regions supported the program with $19.3 million over four years to develop new service hubs in Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek, Tom Price and Newman, as well as funding the recently completed Carnarvon Dual Purpose Alcohol and Drug Centre.
The Carnarvon Dual Purpose Alcohol and Drug Centre is the first model in Western Australia to co-locate a sobering-up service with a community drug service team offering a range of specialist alcohol and other drug services.
The Centre is a 24-hour facility which serves as the base for the Midwest Community Alcohol and Drug Service during the day and offers a 10-bed sobering-up service for intoxicated people overnight.
