Pilbara Cardiovascular Screening program
Project status: In Progress
Royalties for Regions has invested $1.2 million to develop the Pilbara Cardiovascular Screening Program.
The program will provide:
- specialist cardiology services
- a specialist and chronic disease coordinator for Newman and the Western Desert
- portable cardiac ultrasound imaging equipment for Newman and South Hedland.
It will seek to improve management and prevention of cardiovascular disease in the region's Aboriginal communities by addressing gaps in cardiovascular screening and management in specific areas of need.
The project will increase access to specialist cardiologist services for adults and children working in coordination with Aboriginal Medical Services.
A key outcome will see increased screening using specialist equipment and delivery of education and prevention activities across the region, all of which are critical to improving cardiovascular health outcomes in remote and Aboriginal patients.
The Pilbara Cardiovascular Screening Program is managed by the WA Country Health Service.
