Project status: In progress
Exmouth Boat Harbour is receiving a major upgrade which will provide significant economic benefits for the Gascoyne region and expand its capacity as a major supply and service base for the oil and gas sector.
The project, managed by Department of Transport and made possible with a Royalties for Regions investment of $18.275 million over two years, will include:
- extension of the service wharf
- construction of a heavy lift facility
- additional moorings and improvements to water-side access to facilities.
The upgraded facilities will provide better access to the wharf for loading and unloading, water and fuel, and has the potential to create approximately 140 new operational jobs.
As the largest harbour in the Gascoyne region, Exmouth is well placed to be a service and support centre for the resources sector in the north supporting the growing maritime industry in the resource-rich Pilbara region.
Extensive community consultation is currently being undertaken and it is anticipated that tenders for the detailed design and planning will be finalised in 2015, with construction starting in 2015-16.
